Lauren ShepherdDirector of Residential Services

As Director of Residential Services, Lauren Shepherd oversees all of the services provided at our Bulverde location. While living at the Bulverde campus, the youth are encouraged to participate in age appropriate activities such as public school, extracurricular activities, social engagements and other therapeutically playful activities. It is through her wide range of experiences at SJRC Texas that Lauren has honed her skills in developing successful teams that are capable of caring for one of the most at-risk populations in the state of Texas.

Lauren is so proud to have served the youth at SJRC Texas for over eight years in various leadership roles. After an internship in college, Lauren was offered a direct care position at the New Braunfels location. Upon completion of her Bachelor’s degree in General Studies her intent was to work in the Social Gerontology field but after starting with SJRC she fell in love with the child welfare field and never looked back. Lauren holds her license as a Child Care Administrator and is proud to be a TBRI Educator through the TCU Institute of Child Development.

It is Lauren’s innermost belief that as children in the custody of the State, our youth are not here because of bad behavior, they are here because raising a child is hard and, without the essential support system, many families simply cannot make it work. Because of this belief, Lauren feels that they deserve every advantage that we can afford them and that it is our responsibility and privilege to guide them through the foster care system.

Not a day goes by where Lauren does not feel the magnitude and weight of the privilege that comes when you work with children that have come from a tragic background. Lauren and her husband, Ben, have been married and living in the Texas Hill Country for almost a decade and together they have one daughter who is both comically gifted and wise beyond her years.

We do not need  to know the beginning of a child’s story to change the ending.
