Christina MelendrezDirector of Child and Family Services

As Director of Child and Family Services, Christina works hard with her team to provide exceptional services to the youth in the Pregnant and Parenting Teen (PPT) Program in New Braunfels. Christina is responsible for the oversight of the PPT program by providing leadership, promoting teamwork, and ensuring that all youth have a safe and loving environment to call home.

Christina started her career in working with children and youth at a very young age. She realized quickly that she has a passion for working with children to help them develop into amazing youth and adults. From babysitting, to camp counselor at the YMCA, then day cares, and after school programs, Christina felt the need to continue her experience and education to focus on Social Work. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Early Child Development from Midland College, Midland, TX and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Texas State University, San Marcos, TX. While finishing up her BSW, Christina interned and later worked as a Child Protective Service worker in Region 7. It was with this experience that led her to join the team at SJRC and utilize her skills and experience with CPS to help youth in the Foster Care system to realize their full potential. Christina is also a Licensed Child Care Administrator and is in her 8th year of service to the children and youth at SJRC.

Christina’s mission through SJRC is to help each young mother to realize the amazing journey they are on with their children. Our youth are given an opportunity to stop the cycle of abuse, neglect, or abandonment that they endured which led them to come into the foster care system. Mothers are encouraged to bond with their children and are taught the skills they need to become efficient parents through parenting, financial literacy, healthy relationships, social skills building classes and honest and open communication when concerns are prepared. Christina is passionate about helping each young mother that comes through the PPT program to feel loved, safe, and able to reach any goals they set to be successful parents.

Christina loves her family and friends and feels blessed to be able to do what she loves. She enjoys all genres of music, dancing, and loves to travel! One of her most favorite people in this world was the late Maya Angelou and her quote, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

We do not need  to know the beginning of a child’s story to change the ending.
